Sunnyside, Denver

Sunnyside is a trendy neighborhood 3 miles northwest of Denver, Colorado with over 100 years of history. It is one of Denver’s original neighborhoods founded around 1860, alongside Potter Highlands, Berkeley Lake, Sloan’s Lake and West Highlands. During its first decade, many Irish immigrants moved in, attracted by the many work opportunities.

Between 1880 – 1895, a great wave of Italian immigrants also moved in the Highlands to work in the railroad industry. They developed stable communities, began growing and selling vegetables in what became to be known as the “Little Italy”

After a few years of depression at the end of the 19th century, the Highlands eventually became part of Denver. During the first years of the 20th century, Mexicans were recruited to work in the sugar beet industry, slowly replacing Italians.

From then on, the Sunnyside area began to develop, building schools, theaters, boulevards, cafes, eventually becoming a high-class neighborhood. It has easy access to 125 and 170, with easy access to the mountains and the local airport.
